29th ANNUAL

KIKI RAINA TAHITI FETE

The 29th Annual Kiki Raina Tahiti Fete will be held at Merced County Fairgrounds on Friday March 14th, Saturday March 15th, Sunday, March 16th.

The longest existing Tahitian Dance and Cultural Festival held outside of French Polynesia will begin Friday March 14th from 9am to 9pm, continuing Saturday March 15th from 9am to 11pm, and Sunday March 16th from 9am to 6pm.

Those who enjoy a rich experience in traditional culture and dance will be enthralled by our Friday presentation of the Solo Dancer Competition eliminations and Saturday's Solo Competition finalist performances, ranging from beginners to professional, ages 4 thru adult, both women's and men's categories.

The magnificence of the event is only accentuated by the Maeva Merced Pageant held Friday evening, where lovely ladies and handsome gentlemen compete for the prestigious titles of Miss and Mr. Maeva (welcome) Merced, during which the Ahuroa (more formal Tahitian Aparima) Competition will be judged.

There will be a Group Drumming Competition held Saturday, featuring the most accomplished Tahitian Musicians in the area, Soloist finals, and Coconut Husking demonstration.

On Sunday, First place winners of the advanced soloists will compete for the overall Vahine and Tane "Best Dancer Awards". Also, the "Couples in Costume" will take the floor with their colorful regalia and exciting duets.

The event is brought to a close by the Tamari'i (children), Amateur and Professional dance groups demonstrating their proficiency in the marvelous 'Ote'a drum dances and the lively Aparima of Tahiti Nui!
